Born from the longing for connection during challenging times

Misty Qiao once had a privileged life. She studied design overseas, with a promising future ahead. But the pandemic changed everything overnight.

Her family’s business failed, leaving her parents without income and cutting off all her study funds. Her boyfriend left her, and strict lockdowns isolated her in a foreign country. With no friends nearby, she endured days of hunger, helplessness and extreme loneliness.

In her darkest hours, she spotted American Mahjong tiles in a shop window. The familiar pieces reminded her of joyful family gatherings—the only warmth she could hold onto in her despair.

As a designer, Misty turned her longing into creation. She reimagined traditional mahjong with modern, elegant aesthetics, while keeping the pure warmth of family bonding. She collaborated with her hometown factory to bring this heartfelt vision to life.
